Wardrobe Staples for Every Fashionista

A hairstyle that works for her, along with a color that she not only adores but one that looks good on her and most importantly a stylist that will help her obtain this.

A signature perfume because you want to leave that lasting impression.

A pair of nice flats. Ones for the days your running late or just not in the mood for heels.

Jeans that make her ass look incredible.

A good pair of heels that remind her how strong and confident she is. They may live in her closet 360 days of the year but when she finally does put them on she is unstoppable.

A signature piece of jewelery. I have a necklace with a Johnny Cash quote on it that rarely leaves my necklace.

A real smile. You all know what I am mean.

A style icon. Use your muse as a guiding light. They’ll never lead you astray.

Lipstick that you can wear to help out your flushed skin AND for a night on the town.

A make-up routine you can wear when your alarm clock didn’t go off. Nothing is worse than when people ask if your sick because the bags under your eyes are showing.

A jacket to throw on in a pinch. You don’t want to be the girl at the bar who is freezing because she only owns a NorthFace.

Sunglasses that are used as an accessory because honestly when the frames don’t fit your face people notice for all the wrong reasons.

A few pairs of matching bras and underwear, you never know when they might come in handy.

A cross-body used  for traveling, shopping or any other activity where she will need her hands free.

Lastly, confidence. Wear it, own it. She takes the clothes she buys and makes them fit her style.

 Stay stylish my loves

Ain’t Nothing That Doesn’t Go With Camouflage

When camouflage started showing up a few months ago, I was not a fan. But as time has gone on, like most trends, I’ve embraced it. In fact, I like it so much that my camouflage tee might need a camouflage jacket friend soon. We shall see.

In the mean time, if you are thinking about trying out the camouflage trend try some of the ways below. Plus, the longer I have them, the more I realize how incredibly versatile this design is. And when you wear them, they add a fun and trendy element. Most say that leopard is a neutral but I think camo is climbing up the ladder.

Beauty Habits We Should All Adopt

So I’m not one of those Pretty People. Reason being I’m not a 9+ (you know on the hotness scale of life) and honestly I don’t have that mentality of the beautiful people. There is an air about people, a sense of confidence. Some days I have “it” but “it” should be apart of us 100% of the time. Here are a few things we should try out EVERY day.

Wash your face of make-up, dirt and the stress of the day away

Smile big for pictures

Nail polish should never be worn chipped, so touch it up or take it off.

Accept a compliment with grace- it shows how much you love and respect yourself

Take care of your body- treat yourself right. Salad is great but so is a bacon cheese burger, don’t deprive yourself of anything. Moderation.

For some it’s a bit to late but for the younger generations… Wear your retainers you’re going to regret it later if you don’t.

Don’t apologize for your health and wellness. If you get facials because have less than Maybelline skin, good for you.

When someone does something for you, really take the time to say thank you. Don’t take someones kindness for granted, make them feel appreciated.

Laugh when you think something is funny. Don’t hold back. Even if you snort- it makes it all the better.

Buy it if you like it. Even if it is a little too dressy, who cares? Wear it when you go shopping with your mom- people who love fashion will appreciate the beauty of the piece

Makeup should enhance, not change. Use it to make a better version of ourselves, not to hide.

Wear what looks good on you and what makes you feel comfortable. Don’t force yourself into heels if you walk like a new born calf stick with flats!

Moisturize.

Spend a little bit more on certain beauty products like I love a good red lipstick, a perfectly matched foundation and a nice dry shampoo.

Learn different hair styles so you can mix things up a bit when your feeling sassy even if it’s just adding some curl to your usually straight hair.

So keep that in mind! Remember nothing is more important than inner beauty but we need to keep ourselves in the best shape we can. From laughing a lot every day to making sure we drink enough water, we need to take care of our one and only body.

Winter White Jeans

We’ve all heard the rule that you can’t wear white after Labor Day, but rules are made to be broken. Plus, white has been creeping its way onto all of the major runways for a few seasons now so it’s time to get on board. That said, the easiest (and safest, at least for your wallet) way to embrace white is with denim.

How they wear it:

white jeans and denim jacket via Sincerely, Jules | SADIERAE + CO.White jeans & jacket!https://i1.wp.com/media-cache-ec0.pinimg.com/originals/5c/11/2a/5c112a51ad0ed644b81fc6b779eaa8dc.jpg'Hello Fashion' Blogger rocking her #clubmonaco Lauren Camo Jacket, such a verstaile piece to complete any go-to look..Knee high boots with white jeans and matching sweater / Fall winter outfit / Casual outfitBack to black Who doesn't have a black knit in their wardrobe? Update yours by wearing it with winter white jeans and matching black heels for impact. Soften the effect with a men's style shirt layered underneath, like Paris Vogue's Capucine Safyurtlu.

Where to get it:

Charlotte Russe Refuge "Skin Tight Legging" White Skinny JeansJegging - Buy One Get One 50% OffWomen's Low-Rise Skinny Jeans White-Mossimo

A few things to remember:

  • Don’t spill on yourself- always carrying a Tide-To-Go stick
  • Keep the neon on black underwear out of this- but please wear underwear
  • There is no room for error in white- this is not the time to wear a size smaller because it looks good- make sure they fit.
  • White jeans and a white top is a hard combo to pull off. Every 1 in 10 can get it right! and those are terrible odds.

But i love the idea of winter white jeans. I love the light colors in those deary months. So when people ask me if you can wear white jeans, here’s what I say:

Wear what you like, when you like, how you like.and be so fabulous that you don’t have time to follow the rules.

xoxo
Ellen

Sorry I forgot it wasn’t 2002

There was some pretty phenomenal things that came to us in the early 2000’s. However most didn’t last through the decade.

Burning the perfect CD for your bestie because her mom wouldn’t let her get the new Nelly album.

Your attire with your group of friends was very cult like. Always wearing clothes from the same stores and sometimes the same shirt in different colors

The phrase “metrosexual” was put into our lives.

Conversations went as followed via AOL:

Hey
Hi
What’s up
Nmu
Nothing
GTG my mom needs the comp…
Away message: “So mad! Don’t IM me!”

Friends were not determined by years of trust and love but only if your initials were on their MySpace

You allowed your friends to go out like this because you yourself had a similar outfit on

Asymmetrical jersey skirts. Styles pretty much exactly like this were everywhere in 2003.

or

"Rehabbed" sport shirts (jersey/number tops plagued with rhinestones, eyelet holes, and cuts).

Some other questionable fashion decisions you made included:

  • Jeans that laced up in the front with no back pockets… Because your mom obviously let you wear a thong
  • Two little hair antennas (the curled version is a tendril) slicked down the side of your head while the rest of your hair was adorned in a scrunchie
  • And there were the accessories like the Pukka Shell Necklaces, studded belts from Hot Topic, body glitter, “bling bling” and trucker hats

Calls to friends had to be made after 7p.m. because you had free nights and weekends.

Prince William prior to losing his hair was the man you wanted to marry.

Going over to a friends house just so they could fix up your AIM profile by adding in a little of this ~*~*~

When someone showed you cheat codes for the Sims and gave you the link to that free website so you can download new shit for them, you didn’t sleep for days.

Snood

No greater match than JT and Britney except for

There was nothing worse then when your download from Limewire finally finished and it was just a terrible radio version.

And there was this:

Fab Finds Under $100: Puffer Vest

There is nothing that says fall like a good puffer vest. They are perfectly casual to toss on over jeans and a sweatshirt, but can add a little bit of chic to an otherwise bland outfit. Layering provides a quick and easy way to transition throughout the day.  I’ve been loving vests this season as they add much-needed warmth to my core while looking effortlessly stylish.

Remember that the goal is to think beyond just wearing a puffer vest over a long-sleeve t-shirt and with yoga pants. It can also go over a cardigan, denim jacket, flannel, sweater, maxi dress or sweater dress. And, play with the collars of your layers or the zipper to change the overall look of the outfit. A puffer vest outfit is practical, but it can also look classy, feminine, preppy and even a little edgy with layering.

You Know You Love Me XOXO Gossip Girl

There is something magical about Manhattan especially the Upper East Side. Maybe it’s the undeniable wealth and the lavish lifestyle it brings or maybe it’s the fact that none of us will ever come close to living in a penthouse overlooking Central Park. Either way when you create a television series about a bunch of over privileged New Yorkers, you’re looking at a success. But when those New Yorkers are actually high schoolers, who have access to the hottest parties, front row seats at MBFW, and all the latest gossip, you have yourself Gossip Girl.

Well this girl is a sucker for some good old fashion drama, so when a friend suggested I watch it (Netflix is a gift from the gods) I hopped right on that band wagon. For all of you outsiders, GG is Clueless of the 2000’s. So here is some of what we learned along the way.

How to Dress

Never leave your house looking less than perfect. You have to dress appropriately for every occasion. From their school uniforms to a flawless outfit for a white party, it made you want to burn all of those sweats and buy a really good make-up routine. They inspire us to put more towards our appearance, because everyone wants to be the best looking person in the room and the proper accessories can make that happen.

Walk like a Crown Adorns Your Head

31 Reasons Blair Waldorf From "Gossip Girl" Is The Real Queen B

Believe in yourself. Act like you are the best. Never let anyone make you feel less than the princess you are! The GG girls did not need men to build up there confidence, they had that from the start. The women of Gossip Girl were strong and (at times) independents. They wanted to rule the world, one minion at a time.

Pretending is Half the Battle

The difference between Serena and Blaire is that Serena seems more fun and outgoing, while Blaire seems stuffy and uptight. But honestly, Blaire, no matter what always looks like she has her whole life together, even when she doesn’t. She did things here way and really let minimal stop her.

Chuck Bass

From that deep whisper of a voice to his constant pursed lips, he had it all. Plus the man could rock an ascot like no other. No matter how vial you think he is, you just can’t help but fall in love with that smoldering look. And all he ever had to do was just look at Blaire to make her weak in the knees. And by Blaire, I mean all the women of the world.

Keep Your Friends Close and Your Enemies Closer

If you want to be one step ahead of your competition you need to keep them close. You have to know what their next move will be. B and S were constantly at each others throats but when it came to those two they were more like sisters who would sleep with each others boyfriends. B knew when S was lying to her and visa-verse, so it made it easier to know what was going on.

Don’t Underestimate a Blogger

Gossip Girl showed us first hand the power of Social Media. “She” had the power to make or break a person with the click of a button. She built people up just to knock them down. The internet is a scary place and you don’t want to piss off the people who control it. And your mom was right when she said that “someone is always watching”.

Always Be Confident

The men and women of Gossip Girl did not have time for insecurities. There was an air about them because when you act like you’re the best people believe you are. Confidence gets you a lot further then most people even realize. I mean god they could even drink when they were 16 because people knew they had a presence.

Respect Your Body

From eating disorders to drugs and alcohol. Gossip Girl showed us how bad people treat their bodies.Just because the show never had an episode about loving yourself, there was definitely an underlying theme. It showed, through every episode, how to be a strong person and work through all of the tough times, even if you needed a friend to lean on.

So until next time lovers,

Mean Girls

In April Mean Girls turned 10! People still are watching and quoting the movie and there are many reasons we love the movie a decade later. First and foremost, kiddos to Tina Fey and the perfection of the dialogue that the movie holds. Second, high school will never change; it was the same way ten years ago and will forever remain a distressing world of relationships, betrayal, and sex. So even though “Fetch” never happened the quotes of Mean Girls definitely did. People constantly shout “She doesn’t even go here!” and when you re-watch the movie, you realize how many of the quotes have made their way into your dialect. Plus, the further we get from high school the funnier the movie gets.

“And on the third day,
God created the Remington bolt-action rifle,
so that Man could fight the dinosaurs.
And the homosexuals.”

“Oh my God, Karen, you can’t just ask people why they’re white”

“That’s why her hair is so big. It’s full of secrets.”

“What are marijuana tablets?”

Damian: “My Nana takes her wig off when she is drunk.”
Ms. Norbury: “Your Nana and I have that in common.”

“Wow, Damien, you’ve truly out-gayed yourself.”

“Everyone in Africa can read Swedish.”

“Why should Caesar get to stomp around like a giant, while the rest of us try not to get smushed under his big feet? What’s so great about Caesar? Hmm? Brutus is just as cute as Caesar. Brutus is just as smart as Caesar. People totally like Brutus just as much as they like Caesar. And when did it become okay for one person to be the boss of everybody, huh? Because that’s not what Rome is about. We should totally just stab Caesar!”

“Oh my God, Danny DeVito! I love your work!”

“You smell like a baby prostitute.”

“Can I get you guys anything? Some snacks? A condom? Let me know! Oh, God love ya.”

“In Girl World, Halloween is the one day a year when a girl can dress up like a total slut and no other girls can say anything else about it.”

“She doesn’t even go here!”

“We only carry sizes one, three and five. You could try Sears.”

“I have a nephew named Anfernee, and I know how mad he gets when I call him Anthony. Almost as mad as I get when I think about the fact that my sister named him Anfernee.”

“Somebody wrote in that book that I’m lying about being a virgin because I use super jumbo tampons, but I can’t help it if I’ve got a heavy flow and a wide set vagina!”

“Did you see nipple? It only counts if you saw a nipple!”

“And evil takes a human form in Regina George. Don’t be fooled because she may seem like your typical selfish, back-stabbing slut faced ho-bag, but in reality, she’s so much more than that.”

“Good. So it’s settled. So you can go shave your back now. Bye, Jason.”

“Half the people in this room are mad at me, and the other half only like me because they think I pushed somebody in front a bus, so that’s not good”

“So, you have your cousins, and then you have your first cousins, and then you have your second cousins…”

“I used to think there was just fat and skinny. But apparently there’s lots of things that can be wrong on your body.”

13 Things That Are Guaranteed When You Get Ready With Friends

1. Some bizarre playlist will be playing in the background that will cover everything from DMX to S Club 7

2. Lots of pictures will be taken, some will never be seen by another soul except for the persons phone they now reside

3. A toast will be made before every shot is taken, some funny, some sentimental but all represent your friendship.

4. Compliments will be flying around because you are with your people. They are not going to let you out looking a mess.

5. Dancing- lots of dancing will happen. Moves that should be seen by only those who love you. A lot of dancing that you think looks like Beyoncé but you really couldn’t be more wrong but WHO CARES?!

6. The rules of the night will be put into place. A) after x amount of drinks take away my phone B) after x amount of drinks don’t let me dance C) everyone needs to get very drunk

7. Lots of statements (some true some very false) will be made like “I’m totally going to dance on the bar!” “KARAOKE!” “I’m getting laid.” “Absolutely no talking to guys tonight!”

8. Stress and work are no longer a factor. So cheers to the freakin weekend! It’s time to dress “unprofessionally”.

9. Unlimited styles of makeup and clothes. You’re trying a new shade of lipstick, taking your shirt off to give to your friend, you sometimes leave the house wearing more of your friends clothes than yours.

10. Confessions and secrets are told because it’s like having your own ethics panel sitting in front of you! Because honestly who knows you better than a friend who has hosed you off in the tub!

11. Promises are made to stay friends forever and to never forget one another because honestly these are the nights that create your memories.

12. The scene can be similar to back stage at fashion week! Topless girls with interchanging outfits. Shoes and makeup every wear. But before you walk out to strut your stuff they don’t let you look less than flawless

13. Sometimes we forget that all of this getting ready is actually to “go out” but honestly this part is the best!

“There is something to be said
for the pure joy of dressing up and going out,
of being young and alive in the city.”

So remember these nights are memories in the making! So go out and just have a blast. In the words of the immortal John Bon Jovi “I’ll sleep when I’m dead!”

So until next time lovers

Real Reasons Why Women Wear Make-Up

tumblr_lmn208SCLf1qbjuk9o1_500

Make-up, god I have a love hate relationship with you! There was a time where I could care less about the stuff, and then before I knew it, I wouldn’t leave the house without it. I realized that I didn’t want to be so dependent on my several step process.

So, it was summer and had a nice glow, so I decided why cover up? I love my freckles and my sun kissed cheeks. I went cold turkey for a few weeks, wearing NOTHING on my face. But then I realized something, I missed wearing it! There is nothing wrong with makeup it’s just a bad feeling when you can’t feel comfortable without it. It isn’t used as a mask; it is used as a highlighter. Make-up isn’t bad, it’s just like anything else in life, some people like it others can’t stand it.

I think makeup is fun and exciting because you can do something new every day. From changing colors to styles there is always a new look waiting. There are two view points on women who wear makeup every day 1) They make it work, they look so professional. or 2) They’re trying too hard, well I like make-up and I really want to defend those who enjoy wearing make-up and who wear it more often than not.

We do it for us

Really, truly I wear make-up because I like the way it makes me feel. Like that little black dress that hangs in my closet, I put it on for me, not my man. If I wanted to appease him, clothes would not be my taken route. Some morning the only person I want to please is myself. When I wear flawless makeup I feel confident. It’s by no means do I feel “ugly” without it, it’s just that I feel a little sassier with it.

It’s pretty and fun and glittery!

From cat-eye to smokey eye to nude lip to fire engine red, we can change our look daily. We can try out new ways to look. Some days we want to just look different so makeup can become an outlet. Plus who doesn’t like their eyes to pop!

It covers up things that we can’t naturally

I have uneven skin much like 99% of the population. I have acne and rosy cheeks and sometimes I just want it all to look one color. I can brighten the blue in my eyes and highlight my cheek bones. I can add some shimmer to my face so when the light hits it I shine. My eyelashes are long but when I throw on mascara I feel like the wind blows harder when I blink.

A way to pamper yourself

Nothing is more exciting then trying out a new lipstick color or a new brand of mascara. I even get excited over a new lip-gloss. It’s fun trying out new products. I love going to get my make-up done and seeing what they use and what they do. Taking someones professional opinion and having them help me learn new tips and tricks.

The most beautiful makeup
of a woman is passion.
But cosmetics are easier to buy.

Just do whatever makes you feel comfortable! Make-up or not it doesn’t matter because confidence is key to any fabulous woman. But I love make-up and I love how it makes me feel. And any questions just shoot me an email at theoxfordguide@gmail.com.

Stay Beautiful Lovers
