May the “Prince Farming” Hysteria Commence

I had ALMOST forgotten how crazy this show can make girls. I’m a fairly new fan to the show but honestly after this season, I don’t know if anything else will live up to the hysteria brought on by Chris Soules and his debate-ably  psychotic ladies. So buckle up everyone because we are in for one hell of a season!

There are a few things that were a bit odd to me. Again I want to make it clear, I am not a religious watcher of the show so I have little to go off of. But I do know crazy and that ladies & gents is what we have here! SO that being said, here are my thoughts thus far on Season 19!

All of that bright lipstick

Chris constantly has lipstick all over his face because everyone wears it. I wonder if Chris said that he liked girl’s in lipstick.. one time.. in passing… and it took off running. Like the whole scarf thing last season (thanks for that Nick).

Kimmel even gets in on the action and accuses Farmer Chris of cross-dressing, due to the hot pink lipstick smeared all over his mouth, if he only knew it was all the time. At least we know now that lipstick equals rose!

Jillian’s blurred out ass

There are only three reasons that they have blurred this out:

1. Her bikini bottoms are transparent
2. She is wearing a thong/ shorty shorts
3. Hairy ass (Drunk girl #2 said so!!)

I’m pretty sure it’s just because she’s not wearing pants.

Crazy girls

Kale’s Mom

First off, that alien comments! Then the organic comment! You don’t even know what alfalfa is, Mackenzie. What do you care if it’s organic?

Crazy Blonde #1 (I think her name is Ashley)

I thought someone was getting money for keeping this bitch on the show but it obviously wasn’t enough to keep her. She did leave us with some of the most quotable lines in the show’s history. Sadly the producers couldn’t convince Chris to keep her on, so long live the onion-pomegranates, and Mesa Verde!

She is my spirit animal. I wish she hung around longer for the sheer entertainment. She twerks for us, spreads rumors about hairy asses and seemed to be drunk the whole 3 days she was there. What’s not to love?

The Bachelor

Other Ashley’s Eyelashes…

how they look:

what I think will happen to them:

They all cry

You do know that you actually don’t know this man? Most of you have known him for a solid 4 hours… Please stop crying, it makes you look insane. They cry when they get voted off, they cry when he isn’t nice enough to them, they cry when they tell him they’re virgins. I mean granted he knew coming into this he would have to deal with his fair share of crazy, but I don’t think he knew the extent.

Yet again, Kimmel knocks it out of the park and sums up my entire point in one sentence “But we spent four days together!” Please come back JK we love you!!

The Bachelor The Bachelor

Chris is Pretty Boring

He is probably the least interesting person in the room. I wasn’t even shocked when he said that he was engaged before. Yes the man is a hot farmer (did you know he is missing harvest for this?!) But a lot of craziness has happened so far and I can’t help but think that the producers did it on purpose. Since Chris is a snoozefest most of the time, they had to turn up the usual drama! Do we need the batshit crazies to distract us from the fact that he’s kind of a lame-o? The answer is 100% YES!

So overall I am super excited to see the Sister Wive drama unfold. The poor bastard doesn’t even know what’s about to hit him. They put his house 100 yards away and apparently doesn’t have a lock!

Either way I hope this season is worth it for Chris because I know it will be for me! Ladies, may the odds be ever in your favor. Cheers to all the tears, drinks and dramatics this show has ever seen!

Can’t wait til Monday!

Boyfriend Jeans

The boyfriend jean is becoming my skinny jean replacement for winter and will transition beautifully into Spring. I love the nonchalant, carefree vibe that fellow boyfriend jeans wearers embody. I had written a post a few months back and really wanted to branch off of that.
I recently visited a local consignment shop and noticed this amazing distressed pair of jeans, I had to have them. While searching the racks I came across an amazing Free People tee, baggy and worn, perfect for that  look. I wanted to wear the two of them together but it just seemed so…. big. Then I remember tuck or twist and make it more “effortless”. So I did a simple knot in the lower left of the shirt and Tah-Dah, boyfriend chic!
That being said, to keep the look light and feminine, it does need to be worn with caution. I often feel frumpy if I don’t have the right details! So here are some quick rules I follow when styling:

Whether it’s your hair, top or makeup make sure you have that girly flair somewhere. Try a red lip or a lace tank.

Accessorize away

Be it a fabulous piece of costume jewellery, charmed arm or a statement clutch-add a big bold piece!

Fashion Mathematics

We all don’t have that endless torso or long legs so keeping a piece structured is key. (Body to baggy ratio) Tucking in your tee or knotting it like I did along with a tailored blazer will give you the look you want!

Thoughts Every Girl Has When Getting Ready for a Night Out

  1. Maybe I can just finish one more episode of Grey’s Anatomy
  2. No! Let’s do this! Big night out!
  3. Well, what if I just don’t go out. Then I can watch the rest of the season, in my pjs… with Ben.. and Jerry.. alone.. with pizza
  4. NO NO NO! YOLO! You are going out no matter what! Get it together!
  5. So, I have nothing to wear, how is this possible…
  6. I promised myself I’d try new styles like the cute way that girl wore a velvet tee over a plaid button down
  7. This is so not me!
  8. Why don’t I look like an Olsen twin- I wish I had their style
  9. I’ll just get back in bed to look through Pinterest and get inspired
  10. How the hell is it 9:30?!
  11. Well maybe I can go with that cute messy look
  13. Ugh, fine I’ll just go with my regular hairstyle…
  14. I haven’t worn this dress in forever
  15. Ew.. now I know why
  16. Maybe I should get rid of it, and this top and these awful pants..
  17. But wait they might come back in style
  18. I totally forgot about these shoes!
  19. Well, heels or flats?
  20. Heels will make my legs look super long
  21. But I don’t have room in my purse for my flats and band-aids
  22. 10:00 pm?!
  23. Red lips or smokey eye?
  24. I hate when I get lipstick all over my martini and I’m constantly reapplying all night…
  25. Where did I save that smokey eye tutorial?
  26. It looks like I got punched in the face- I’ll just add more glitter
  27. Well on the upside I look better than I did an hour ago so here goes nothing
  28. Wait I hate this top…
  29. I have literally tried on every piece of clothing own and I put on the first outfit I tried on…

Ankle Boots

If there is one single thing that will never go out of style or season, it’s a great pair of ankle boots. They may be the only pair of shoes that looks killer with bare legs, skinny jeans, tights, slouchy trousers, or any outfit you could dream up. Whether you go flat or heeled, an ankle boot will never let you down. Invest in a good pair now, and wear them season after season, year after year.

This is the accessory to take any outfit from safe to fashion. The easiest way to wear them is with a skinny pant or legging but see different ideas on how to style them. People seem to be wary of ankle boots.. First, they’re worried they’ll look shorter and/or fatter because of how these boots are cut. Second, they just don’t know what to wear with the boots. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: you can literally wear anything as long as you feel confident in it!

This isn’t the “easiest” look to pull off but it is adorably head turning if done right. Proportion is key. Short or tall doesn’t matter because the outfit will fit to your body. But obviously the shorter the boot and shorts, the longer the legs! I prefer the look above the knee but that doesn’t mean it can’t be done with a mid-calf or maxi skirt!

This is an easy outfit to put together because the boots do all the work. There is no cramming in all that fabric into a riding boot. Now you can simply cuff and go. You can wear ANY type of pant with these shoes and thank god for that. Skinny jeans are great but I’ll be getting that permanent jean indent in my legs soon. So bring out the rest of your jeans and pants because this boot can showcase the rest of your wardrobe.

Boots my favorite things to wear on my feet. They keep you warm, the right pair looks chic no matter what you’re wearing, and they’re (almost always) comfortable. I especially love ankle boots, because they’re even more versatile than high boots. During the colder months, ankle boots look amazing with jeans, or a skirt or dress with tights. During warmer months, you can get away with wearing the right pair of ankle boots with shorts or a dress. What more could you ask for?

Winter Wardrobe Rut

We’re right in the thick of winter and perhaps the worst is behind us. I’m getting tired of wearing sweaters and the unwilling feeling to be inventive with my outfits. I’m not yet excited for summer since its so far away which means bare legs and arms are also just a dream.

Let’s face it: your closet is full, but you’re feeling like you’ve got absolutely nothing to wear… all of the time. In fact, you haven’t worn a nice outfit since November. You keep wearing that same sweater and jeans combo that you know looks good, and you avoid venturing into new style territory until the warmer weather sets in.

The thing is, I don’t blame you, and you’re not alone in your despair. You’re in what we call a rut, and I’m going to be the person that lends their hand and pulls you out of that deep dark hole. The key to getting out of a fashion rut is simpler than you may think, and it can totally change the way you feel about your wardrobe for little to no money. So what are you waiting for? Walk into your closet and take a deep breath: it’s cleansing time people!

Find a style muse

There are people in this world whose job it is to be fashionable. Look at them, copy them, study how they style their clothes. So in that winter rut see what your muse is wearing and if that isn’t doing it, see who her muse is. Research is fun and exciting and will open you up to so many new styles.

Take Pictures

Even if they aren’t posted anywhere, pictures give you a different perspective on how your outfit looks on your body. It could be as simple as a selfie in a full length mirror. It’s nice to go back and see outfits that you loved and others that need a little tweaking.

Take it to the streets

Rihanna in nude dress

There is nothing better than street style. Look at the people around you, look at blogs because these people aren’t runway models but they offer a new fashion perspective. Plus bloggers will tell you where you can get their clothes. Remember, different stores open new doors. And a huge bonus is that some bloggers find looks for less!

Go shopping alone

I hate shopping with people, like serious heart pumping shopping. You can try on crazy outfits and different trends before you showcase them to your people. This also allows you to figure out what exactly you are looking for. Sometimes friends can deter you away from a trend you really want to try.

Understand “your” style

Don’t get stuck in “that’s not my style”. How do you know?? Try it out! You don’t need to shop at the same three stores. Try something new. If you see a trend and think that it isn’t for you, try to get a piece on the cheaper end. That way you can see if you really don’t like it, that way there’s no harm. But you never know!

Switch up your “norms”

Instead of a studded earring try a mismatched set. Instead of a pump try a wedge. Instead of all black, go winter white. Instead of legging go for a wider leg pant. Instead of heavy eye makeup try a bright lip. The options are endless, just try thinking outside of the box.

So remember if someone has ever made a jab about your five pairs of black heels and your rebuttal was that there’s nothing wrong with having a signature look, I agree. Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn had their signature looks and they’re still being copied to this day. However, the line between style rut and signature style is a fine line to walk. So when you find yourself putting on you “go-to” outfit- STOP and pick something up that you haven’t worn in awhile.

How do you get get out of style rut? Comment below! I can’t wait to hear!

The Word on the Runway is…

If there is one thing that I have learned about clothes is that Fashion is all about recycling. Don’t throw your better pieces out to the curb just yet because you never know when they might rear their ugly head.

I had to do a little research because Donatella has yet to ask me to sit front row at her show, so my advice is second hand. I love the styles that come into play every spring. I love the fabrics and colors that come with warmer weather. So here is TOG top trends for this upcoming Spring season.

Yes the Polo is back! Hollister fans get ready for that double popped collar because it’s coming at you full force. I once owned EVERY color of polo Ralph Lauren had to offer, until I got rid of them to make room for the next fad. Luckily I kept the basic colors.

– Alexander Wang- I’M Isola Marras – Tory Burch –

All White

This is one of the best color combos out there. All black is easy and fashionable but all white is chic and fabulous. A girl who can gracefully wear all white, is ok in my book.

– Valentino – Chloé – Carolina Herrera –

Like a chicer peasant top, you’re going to want a 70’s inspired piece when the weather turns warmer. From the maxi skirt to the tunic- bring on the hippie chic! Plus I am loving the neutral colors mixed with brights for some added fun!

– Emilio Pucci – Dries Van Noten – Missoni –

Simply Sheer

After being bundled up all winter, this will be a nice change of pace. The completely transparent outfit might not make it far off the runway but we will definitely be seeing more sheer pieces incorporated this season. Some designers used the sheer material but added a piece (like a sequin pencil skirt) underneath to add more color or texture.

 – Tommy Hilfiger – Givenchy – Roberto Cavalli

Oppan Gingham Style

This simple and sweet pattern has made its way onto the Runway of many big name designers. The checkered print will be great with the warmer weather and all the colors that Spring brings to us.

– Oscar de la Renta – Diane Von Furstenberg – Oscar de la Renta –

One Shouldered

I’ve never been  big fan of the one shouldered look but I am excited to see the neck lines that Spring 2015 will bring. I love pieces that accentuate my collarbone so I hope collars are fun and flirty.

– Ralph Lauren- BCBG Max Azria -Christian Dior –

The Jeans Remix

The Canadian Tuxedo has taken the runway by storm. This isn’t a style for just any cowgirl because these designers have taken the traditional jean style and given it an exciting twist.

– Chloé – Gucci – Fendi –

Belt it!

We have seen belts added to so many styles and so many designers, what seems to be, every season, but this style is one that I love. The wrapped effect fits right in with the kimono trend plus, a cinched waist is so flattering, especially with a thicker belt. I am excited to see how designers will take if from runway to every day.

– Marni -Herve Leger – Chadwick Bell –

Suede Style Suits Spring

This buttery fabric has always fallen into the fall category but that is about to change. It was the centerpiece of many runway shows, appearing in a wide range of colors and styles. This is one style I can’t wait to add into my wardrobe!

– Gucci – Jason Wu – Derek Lam –

Some other styles that I adore are:

the Tailored Shirt Dress.

Boyfriend styles will always hold a special place in my heart but this spring we’re bring out a little more sophistication. The Shirt Dress is here to stay and I couldn’t be happier!

Prima Ballerina

Airy chiffon’s, that add a  fluidity to an outfit. Spring is time to pack up all of those heavy fabrics and bring a lightness back into our wardrobe. Fabric and color’s are taking on a lighter tone!

There is something modern and powerful about the flat trend taking over. Probably because they are taking more a of masculine approach but I am excited. From the loafer to the smoking slipper and ever brogue in between, flats will reign on!

Comment below and let me know what your favorite trend is or what you are excited to see hanging in your closet this season!

Until next time,

Iconic Fashion Photography

People love taking pictures. Documenting their lives and day to day activities. But what is the difference between me and Mario Sorrenti? Everyone who has a smartphone can use filters, change contrasts, and upload images onto a multitude of digital platforms. But out of the millions of photographs taken every day, for one reason or another, some of them become legendary. The images that become iconic are used as inspiration for fashion, film, art and poetry.

What makes an image iconic? Why do we remember some over others? Some, such as Beverley Johnson being the first African-American woman to appear on US Vogue, have mass appeal and are referred to as culturally significant. Others may capture a particular moment in time, such as Twiggy or Jackie Kennedy at the height of the fashion fame in the 1960s. Some images may carry multiple movements, such as Demi Moore appearing naked on the front of Vanity Fair, whilst others may have impact on public opinion (such as African-American model Donyana Luna appearing on the cover of British Vogue).

Those that remain iconic are those that inflict emotion – joy, anger, disbelief, happiness, excitement, yearning and/or desire – and with that, TOG brings you my Top 10 Favorite Iconic Fashion Photos. are you favorite photographers and pictures they have shot? Did one of your favorites make the list?Comment below I would love to hear!

Until next time my loves,

the tireless effort to look so effortless

When you think you’ve spent too much time getting ready, stop. It’s better to get dressed on a whim because you make instinctual decisions

Today’s fashion centers around trying really hard to look like you didn’t try at all, intentionally putting yourself together so that it all looks, well, totally not put together. The more sloppy, slouchy and laid-back the look, the better. But ironically enough, to achieve that level of blasé faire requires some serious effort.I admit that I have become completely obsessed with this movement. A friend of mine and I have always wanted to look like the Olsen twins or a Zara model. They have gotten effortless down to a science.

Think of Saturday errands and brunch with some close friends. You want to look like you just rolled out of bed and threw on a pair of jeans you had on the floor and a necklace you found in your purse. You aren’t Brittany Murphy in Uptown Girls so don’t try it, it doesn’t work in the real world we all know that.

Instead you play around with a top knot twisting-pulling and 3 hair ties later it looks “effortless”. After you iron your favorite baggy tee (because there are purposeful wrinkles and wrinkles that just scream this was in the bottom of my hamper)  you try to tuck the corner of your shirt in just enough. This obviously means you CAN NOT pee! You grab some boyfriend jeans and decided frantically between flats, loafers or sneakers! After all is said and done you top it off with a pair of aviators.

45 minutes later it looks like you got ready in 5 minutes.

How they fashion:

I need this hat. Oh and the sweater. Alright, and the sunglasses too. And we can't forget about the necklace. My favorites:

So remember:

  • Keep it baggy
  • Curls look better the next day
  • The chicest looks these days are all about contrasts. Anything ladylike or classic should be paired with something modern and cool
  • When in doubt, top knot, hat or braid
  • Messy and sloppy  have two different meanings
  • Keep the colors and prints simple
  • Minimal makeup- blush, clear gloss and Mascara, Mascara, Mascara
  • Your hair can never look perfect. Ever. Whether you have naturally curly hair or straight, it’s always better to let it run wild.
  • Shoes can be mixed and matched- try pumps, sandals, or even sneakers

But honestly there are no rules anymore. If you have the right attitude (confidence) and you wear your clothes in the right way (a way you feel amazing yet comfortable at the same time), you will have that natural sexiness and before you know it you will be the girl in the enviable ensemble.

Happy dressing my loves,

Life According to Iris Apfel

Iris Apfel is 94 years young, has been married to her husband Carl Apfel for 64 years and is LOVELY! She’s known for her trademark round glasses and expressive wardrobe. Iris is best known as an interior designer and ran a successful textile business with her husband Carl until they retired in 1992. She’s assisted nine different US presidents in decorating the White house and just last year she collaborated on a line with MAC cosmetics.

If your hair is done properly and you’re wearing good shoes, you can get away with anything.

I think you have to have self-confidence, or you just can’t pull it off. And fantasy is something that is so, so lacking in this world today. I think that’s the reason that all of my museum shows were so successful. I mean, it just showed people that there was something other than just encasing yourself in fabric. Fantasy is powerful, powerful, powerful. And everybody can’t handle it in big doses but you can try little bits at a time.

I say, dress to please yourself. Listen to your inner muse and take a chance. Wear something that says “Here I am!” today.

More is more and less is a bore.

I think dressing up or down should be a creative experience. Exciting. Fun. For me the key to personal style lies in accessories. I love objects from different worlds, different eras, combined my way. Never uptight, achieving – hopefully – a kind of throwaway chic.

My mother knew if you bought a couple of really good architectural outfits and put your money into accessories, you could create a million different looks. She taught that to me, which I think was invaluable.

You have to look in the mirror and see yourself. If it feels good, then I know it’s for me. I don’t dress to be stared at, I dress for myself.

You have to know yourself and know what you can carry. If you’re not comfortable, no matter how well dressed you are, you’re not going to look right. I’d rather be happy and feel comfy.

You don’t have to look like an old fuddy-duddy, but I believe it was Chanel who said, ‘Nothing makes a woman look so old as trying desperately hard to look young’. I think you can be attractive at any age. I think trying to look like a spring chicken when you’re not makes you look ridiculous.

When you don’t dress like everybody else, you don’t have to think like everybody else.

I always feel that if you’re gonna be uncomfortable and unhappy in something, just because you think it’s in or it’s chic, I would advise you to be happy rather than well-dressed. It’s better to be happy.

When you go to a nice restaurant, you want to be relaxed and have a drink and everything, you want to look at people who look well. You don’t want to look at some slob with an open shirt and a hairy chest. At least I don’t.

If you put something together and it doesn’t look so good, the fashion police are not going to come a take you away. And if they do, you might have some fun in jail.

Have fun and enjoy the clothes you wear. Fashion should be exciting and expressive. Don’t ever dress for anyone else but yourself. It speaks volumes about a person who has their own style. So rock on!

Until next time,
