July Lust List

So at the start of every month I’m going to start showing off some products that I feel I need (I’ve always been bad at realizing the difference between need and want). They might be new or new to me! Overall I want to use this as a way to keep a budget and stay within my means.

I know I need to be happy with what I have and not always be wanting more. That said, it is fun to drool over new products and other things that I want every so often and decide to either make the splurge or make do without. So here is a list of 5 things that I’m really lusting after this month. Will I acquire them? I don’t know…but this is what I’m totally after right now.

Vans (or Dress Sneakers)

I have been in love with the sneaker and shorts look but it has to be done with an effortlessness that most hipsters do with ease. I love the vans look but Target has a few that come a close second along with Sperry. But it wasn’t until I realized you can create your own pair that Vans stole the show. I really want a camo pair that I made below. Something about camo that makes my heart pitter patter I also love the khaki with the brown laces, they’re perfect for catching a movie or Saturday errands.

Tassel Necklace

Ever since I visited New Orleans I can’t get the beautiful street style out of my head, especially the tassel necklaces that adorned the necks of every girl. So I searched far and wide and Etsy was the place that came the closest. I love the wooden beads but I love the bright colors too! So maybe I need both!

Blue and Green Lipstick

No, your eyes are not deceiving you.  You are looking at a bright green lipstick and a bright blue lipstick, but have no fear, these magically transform into super wearable tints.  Hello Sailor is a moisturizing lip tint containing Vitamin E that turns into a lovely sheer blackberry. The recently launched Frog Prince, moisturizes your lips with shea butter and turns into a beautiful pink rosebud tint.  These are both great for the ‘quick swipe, no mirror’ action and will work on all skin tones.

Birkenstocks have always been in my life. My best friend wore them for years and would rant and rave about the comfort they gave. Used as a quick throw on and go shoe, it’s now seen the trend that we’ve seen everywhere from the streets of New York to the runways of Paris. And I need to get myself a pair, either a neutral brown or all black. I haven’t been able to find ALL black but I am obsessed with the pairs below.

Warby Parker

First of all you can try them for free for a few days, as many times as you want. Second, they start at $95 and third they aren’t delicate, so they will withstand you stepping on them in the middle of the night. Warby’s come in all shapes, sizes and colors. They totally fit in with the hipster fad plus are great for reading so you don’t have to do that thing your gram does where the glasses sit at the brim of your nose because you can get some BIG frames.

So until next month! I can’t wait to see what’s out there! Tell me about more boutiques or fads that you love! Comment below! Until next time my loves.

Small Card, Big Thank You

Ever since I was little my mom has always emphasized the importance of manners, and a hand written thank you note was on the top of her polite list! Sadly thank you notes (like beepers) are becoming a thing of the past with technology, but in my opinion it shows true appreciation and gratitude.

Sure, you can send an email or even a text, but come on! It’s not the same! Your family, friends and acquaintances will adore your sincerity when they receive one of these gorgeous greetings via good ol’ fashioned snail mail. Who knows? They may even wanna frame it.

Sometimes I’ll admit I really dread having to write them, though it’s the right thing to do! They don’t take long to write and mean a lot to most people. A personalized message shows how much you care for the other person. The letter can be personalized to you too! Get shopping below for some adorable thank you cards that you can send out and remember people don’t have to get you something to send a card. It’s nice to just get a thank you for being a friend!

Remembering how important it is to send thank you notes, try keeping a stash close by! I absolutely adore them and stock up whenever I see a sale. Sending these notes says so much about your class, gratitude, and overall etiquette understanding. You aren’t required to send them by any means, but those that do automatically seem more appreciative than those who don’t. Consider that next time someone gives you a gift or does something nice for you! So comment below, I want to hear, is a text good enough or does a hand written letter say a little more? Can’t wait to hear!

My love came when I saw Lulus post the cutest summer dress. From palm fronds to hibiscus, black and white to rainbow bright, tropical prints are riding a heat wave straight through our hearts and into our closets as we gear up for sunny days and rising temps. Summer Series: Flower Crown

Floral crowns evoke mystical notions of princesses and forest nymphs. They are the very epitome of fairy tale elegance – and so it does strike as a bizarre trend to bring into the fashionable arena of modern culture.

In amongst our adult shaped lives, composed of concrete apartments and credit cards, it is a strange but satisfactory trend to help carve out a fairytale story into our rather serious lives.

Though it is a light and playful trend, the flower crown does come with its fair share of rules to follow. Wheat those rules are I’m not entirely sure because just like the rest of the fashion world, if you rock it you can wear anything. I just know personally, I love little flowers, I’m more of baby’s breath gal. You just need to find what style looks good on you.

Summer Series: Beach Bags and Cover-Ups

It’s beach season and depending on your travel destination, your accessories can be just as important as your actual swimsuit. If you’re visiting a resort, cover-ups or tunics for walking around the property, eating inside the restaurants etc are essential! Plus, I think with age I’ve become a little more modest, so gone are the days of me walking around in only my swimwear. (Either give me the cutest coverup ever or I might be donning a full-body wetsuit to cover my entire body! Am I right?)

Plus we need a place to keep everything as we walk around scenic ocean towns. From sunscreen to sunglasses to drinks, our bags keep everything safe from the water and sand.  Get shopping some of my favorite beach bags and cover-ups for this season so you look your most fashionable.

Birchbox: Month 1

BirchBox might possibly be one of my new favorite ideas/websites. Only second to my all time favorite Hautelook.

Birch Box is a monthly membership service. It costs $10 a month and you receive 5 deluxe size beauty samples in the mail. You can cancel the service at any time, although I don’t know why you would! It is all customized to what you want and need.

Plus you gain from reviewing! Each review is worth 10 Points. Not only are you earning cash to spend in the Shop (every 100 points is $10 to spend through BIrchbox) you’re also helping other subscribers learn about products they may not have gotten the chance to try yet.

If you’re a Sephora junkie like me, then you probably take advantage of their VIB or Beauty Insider program. For every dollar you spend you get one point. $100=100 points. At Sephora you can pick out one deluxe size sample for every 100 points. Think about that!! Essentially you’re having to spend $100 for just one free sample. With Birch Box you pay $10 a month and get five! Yes please! I’m so glad I got signed up!

They ship their box’s the first week of every month. I got my May box on May 18th. It was the perfect birthday present! I ran to my mailbox and ripped it open to see what was inside! So below are all of the items I received, which I gave my personal review on. Let me know what you think of the Birch Box concept. I cant wait to show you all of my goodies every month!

COOLA Face SPF 30 Unscented Matte Tint

COOLA Face SPF 30 Unscented Matte Tint - new

This tinted sunscreen is an amazing concept especially for the warmer months. It’s light-weight and smooth. The consistancy of this product is outstanding, and it gives my face the perfect layer of finish before putting my makeup on. In the morning, I first put on my moisturizer, follow with the COOLA Matte and then finish with a loose powder. Perfection! If you’re a Benefit gal this is the same texture as POREfessional and just as silky. It doesn’t give a great deal of coverage though so if you like a little more coverage this isn’t for you.

Whish Shave Crave Shaving Cream

Whish Shave Crave Shaving Cream

I rarely use shaving cream. I gave this one a go and I was excited to try it, thought this would change my mind. Well it wasn’t very full ( I know it’s a sample), I didn’t like that it didn’t foam up and I hated the Blueberry. It didn’t seem to stay on my leg long enough to shave and I didn’t notice a closer shave at all. People may enjoy it who use shaving cream normally but thumbs down from me.

Beauty Protector Protect & Oil

This makes my hair so soft and smooth & makes it smell like cotton candy and vanilla! But make sure to use a very small amount because a little goes a long way. I recently bleached my hair and cut it into a pixie and was destroying it by styling and straightening so this came at the perfect time. It does a great job of taming my frizzy hair without making it look weighed down. I use it on damp hair before I blow it out and I’m impressed with the smoothness. I will be buying this product!

I got a sample of this and it is AMAZING. So much more impressive than any other natural mascara. I didn’t have high hopes for it, but I was wrong. It makes lashes super long and super black. It dries well, wears well, layers well, and doesn’t smudge. It seems softer and really lifts while separating lashes. There is minimal clumping, plus it’s all natural! I will buy this product and tell everyone about it.

Proper Bar Soap Elderflower

Bar soap, like shaving cream, is not my thing. I hate the filmy feeling I think it leaves on my skin. This was quite the opposite of Whish because the smell was delightful. It was romantic and soft. I haven’t used bar soap in years, but was impressed with the richness of the lather and the subtle scent. I loved it, but I don’t think I will buy it. Very expensive for one bar but I loved my trial size.

My Family Isn’t Traditional

Some families have one mommy, some families have one daddy, or two families. And some children live with their uncle or aunt. Some live with their grandparents, and some children live with foster parents. And some live in separate homes, in separate neighborhoods, in different areas of the country – and they may not see each other for days, or weeks, months… even years at a time. But if there’s love, dear… those are the ties that bind, and you’ll have a family in your heart, forever.

I’m an only child whose parents divorced early on in my life so titles were quickly thrown out the window along with the “norm” that you thought your friends went home to. As I got older friends became brothers and sisters and my entire family could be broken down into two groups, cousins or aunts & uncles. No one was a second or third or step, they all are close family. From my grandmother’s best friends to my step parents all of these people help mold me into the person I am today.

I was an only child with two working parents and for the longest time I was the ONLY child so I was constantly surrounded by family. My world grew by two when my parents got divorced and through that experience I have learned to allow my heart to give love to anyone willing to accept it. Not all of these people I consider close family are immediate family. The world around us is changing and with that so is the definition of family (thank god)!

It wasn’t until I met my boyfriend that I realized not everyone ran between 4 different homes on holidays and had such a big family that it’s even hard for me to remember everyone’s name. I still explain to him that in my world chaos was exciting and my family wasn’t like an episode of “Leave it to Beaver”. The thing is, is that it’s hard for people to understand that I prefer it this way. So many people and so much love, it’s a nice feeling.

What isn’t easy is keeping up with everyone and staying in touch, making sure you follow up with Paul and his broken leg or seeing how Sam did at her recital. I love knowing how people’s lives are going and how their family is but sometimes I just can’t juggle it all. So it takes a wedding or a funeral for us to remember how much we love each other and miss one another. It’s nice to reminisce about the past and the hilarity that ensued, but to also see the new & exciting things happening in the present.

We can never go back to what we had but we can embrace the future and all of the love that is headed towards us. Remember a family in my eyes is simply defined as a group of people who love and care for one another. Nothing more, nothing less. So surround yourself by people you love and always make sure they know how much you care because tomorrow isn’t guaranteed.

Boho Embroidered Clutch

Sometimes I don’t jump on a trend that I really like when I see it the first time because it is over saturated or just out of my price range. Sometimes I kick myself because I miss out on a bag I adore (or do I adore it because I can’t get it). However there are times I find the same thing somewhere else for less. Etsy is so good for that. I often find items from smaller sellers at more reasonable prices, including local and small online boutiques. The embroidered clutch was a trend I wish I jumped on sooner.

Summer is all about effortless and laid back style! The denim cutoffs, the simple tanks, the bikinis and the free spirit accessories are our everyday attire! On the top on our must-have list is the bohemian bag…Call it ethnic, hippie, tribal or gypsy, this bright and eye-catching bag is the ultimate accessory of any carefree fashionista and can be worn everywhere, from the city to the beach. It’s cool, vintage-inspired and the perfect way to achieve the girl-meets-hippie vibe! Fringed, printed, embellished or beaded, choose your favorite and hold it with style!
